    Life and travels update
I'd forgotten how the days fly by when you're unemployed :p When home, I always seem to keep busy around the place, so I'm never counting the hours bored.

Last weekend I made a trip up to Seattle to hang out with [info]tarin_yote [info]rummy_raccoon and [info]arkydashep among others. It was a fairly low key weekend, eating, hanging out, and Saturday night we caught Laser Floyd in the Imax theater. Laser Folyd is awesome, they have lots of lasers and kinda sound like one of thoes 70's bands that people used to get high and listen to. On the way home Sunday I made a side trip out to Bremerton to see a few friends I had lost touch with up until recently.

Right now I am sitting in the observation loung of the Coho ferry, on my way out of Port Angeles heading over to Victoria. The plan is sight seeing, visiting, and going up to Nanaimo Saturday evening for fireworks. I don't recall what the occasion for this "long weekend" (3 day holiday) mabey the government is giving out gummie worms or something. Not being a citizen, I hope someone will at least share some with me.

The plan is to check in with work again tomorrow, if they want me back next week I'll head home Sunday, otherwise I'll stay another day or two. I love having the freedom to throw the dogs and a suitcase in the car and just take off.

What happened to my friends list? OvO
For some reason it has nearly doubled in size over the last 2-3 days... Anyway, thanks to all and for the comments. I will try to reply but forgive me if I run out of time :/ I have not even gotten around to adding everyone back (I am working on it...)

For anyone who want to catch up on who I am / what I do I did write this post a while back about my job. And since I am there now, supposed to be working, I need to get back to that... OvO

    I has fishies!
I have been fishing and fish were caught, then released and then caught again.

It was good. It was wet. Very wet. There was some coldness.

There was a strange man with a machette and a lid of a plastic crate walking along a track in the middle of no where. He said he had lost his girlfriend, so we took him in the car to find her. I sat in the back because I didn't want a man with a machette and a plastic lid sitting behind me. His name was Tony. He was a nice enough guy, if he had kept walking the way he was, he wouldn't have got back until well after dark. We found his girl friend who was relieved to see him, then we left them to sort out their differences and we went fishing some more.

    It was different.

Long weekend and visits at the zoo...
Once again, I had a quite long weekend, five days, all sunny and warm, I spent it with Tombi and we visited 4 zoos! :)

On Thursday evening, after work, I met Tombi in Wetzikon and went home together, Ryu came later because he was doing some stuff, I don't remember what. We are some pasta dish that I usually cook, and we then talked, watched TV, watched stuff at the computer and didn't go to late to bed.

Friday morning, we both didn't wake up too late, we talked, had a breakfast, went to walk and taking pictures, then I went to the post to take a parcel, I got a macro lens, a 8GB CF card and a 16GB USB stick. I tried the lens and we did other stuff, then Ryu came and we went to buy the stuff in the migros with Silverhuskie too. After we went to take pictures of the sunset and they cooked something nice and we liked it. The end of the evening we watched TV and also watched stuff on the computer, then went to bed not too late.

Saturday morning we went rather early to the Kinderzoo in Rapperswil and took there many pictures of many animals, but the nicest was the meerkats and the mongooses in the same enclosure. The bath of the elephants was also interesting, and the lemurs were also very cute. So we took a few hundreds of pictures each, then we came back home to watch the pictures on the computer and drink, etc, then went to Oerlikon, first to eat at the Burger King with Doggy that we met in the train, and then went to the roundtable. There weren't a lot of furries, but the atmosphere was nice and we stayed outside. Tombi liked it and made new friends it seems. We stayed till 11:45 and went to bed shortly after.

On Sunday, we also woke up rather early and took the bus and trains to the Siky Ranch, and there we turned around the zoo, but mostly stayed at the wolves and surely at the tigers' enclosure. I took many shots, some good, some not so good, and what was interesting was that the male golden tiger mated with a white female several times, but anything good to take pictures, wrong position and angle. We stayed till about 4PM, then went back, and arrived at home at around 6:30 PM, where we ate hamburgers, then went to the industrial area with Ryu and the husky to see the remote car driving, it has now lots of power, it can go up to 80 km/h. Then we cleaned the kitchen, had a shower and then watched the pictures of the day.

On Monday, we again woke up rather early and this time went to the zoo of Basel, I never really went there, at least not the last 20 years, so we both discovered it. We took again many pictures, and this time, the highlight was the cheetahs (a mother and five cubs that are now rather big), we spent lots of time around the enclosure, and the best was the feeding time, they gave chickens to them, and while we shot, there were at least 5-6 other persons with DSLRs and long lenses, that was looking quite funny! I also took pictures of the lion, they also have two cubs there. So we were quite satisfied, even if we couldn't stay very long because of the way back, we arrived at around 7PM and we had a pasta salad to eat. The evening we copied and watched the pictures as usual, took a shower, talked watched TV, etc.

Next morning, we first went to walk in Bäretswil with Ryu, and at around noon, we went to the zoo of Zürich, and there we also took many pictures. Sadly the snow leopards weren't visible because Djamila had once again a cub (but it will be nice in a couple of months), the lions were in a bad position, but we got a couple of nice pictures of the tigers, and of the wolves, especially of the cute pups. We also got quite nice pictures of the pallas cats, rhino, snowy owl, and a couple of other animals. We went back to the main train station, put the luggage in a locker and found a nice restaurant not too much in the center, so rather cheap, we had specialty from Zürich and also a nice dessert, and talked a lot about lots of subjects, it was nice. Then we came back home, had a nice time together, Ryu came, and I went to bed rather late.

Wednesday morning I went to work and went with Tombi to the train station of Wetzikon, and my day was okay, especially since it was still quite sunny!

    Random things
I have a cough and it's driving me nuts, I hate not being well and I've given myself a headache from coughing all day. Can I just be well again please?

So this was my last free weekend before starting my PhD, I mostly spent it finishing off my remaining business so it'd be fairly dull to recount. Sunday was interesting for a while though, we had a freak storm here in south Liverpool, a big freak storm. Thunder, lightening, hammering rain, hail stones, the lot. I had to stop what I was doing for a good 30 mins and just stand half outside the patio doors enjoying the show, I've always loved thunder ♥

I'm having a new computer built, Ray's helping a lot with that, the system I'm using is 6 years old and it's beginning to give up the ghost, plus I feel like this puter isn't really mine any more. It broke a lot in Japan and kept getting repaired, all of my files and music etc was destroyed. It's all backed up on my laptop but the PC seems a little alien to me and I don't like that. So yay for new PC's might actually be able to play so recent games once it's finished, should be fun ^^

    MMS help!
Tonight, my parents are coming over to our place, and the dropped Duncan off with my brother in the Netherlands. Duncan seems enthralled by my brother's cat, and the cat is...less then impressed with Duncan and avoids it at all costs.

To ease my mind, my brother tried to send me a MMS picture via his phone. I CAN received MMS messages on my new phone, but for some reason it didn't comes through.

It send me a link to the KPN website, and a entry code to get the message... but I can't seem to get at it!

Is there anyone out there that can reach the MMS content for me? I would really appreciate it!

details for those wishing to help )

    Thanks in advance!

Well, the house is cleaned and ready.. so now all we have to do is wait for my parents to arrive! We've been having some of the best weather so far, and I hope it'll continue throughout their stay :)

    Battle report
On last thursday another chemo was scheduled, but before they gave it to me they checked my blood as things gotten so out of hand the first time.
    But off to "better" news..

I am pleasantly suprised by how close tiger is with me during the time I have been so sick for the last few days.
She has been trying to sit close to me almost the entire time, no matter where I would be.
During the night she seemed to have found a way to open the doors and went downstairs to visit me.(I am sleeping in the guest room downstairs temperarily)

Tiger is not normally allowed outside the pstairs living room, but cats have a tendency to break the rules whenever they see fit.
I just a little thing I did appreciate, even if only a very little thing.
Does show she is constantly trying to get to me no matter were I am, suprisingly even opening doors which she normally doesn't do.

On other news I also watched "enchanted" and a "bee movie" to spend the time, and both are a good watch.
I think "enchanted" was a very interesting one starting off in a cartoon world :)

I did not have much energy to really do much else then sit somewhere or sleep for the rest, but at least things are starting to get better now and hopefully be able to do at least some things tommorow.
Also it's been discussed by my parents to go for a meal at the burger king once i'm eating normally again, if not for the reason it's all highly calory rich then becuase their stuff actually has some taste unlike the Mc Donalds ;p (in my opinion).

All the current things have not helped much with mother's day today, but at the very least the flowers I ordered with my brother the day before the chemo arrived as planned, and so still got at least something.
Hope everyone else has a very nice mother's day too :)

    Burning Mountains and other news
    Slieve Donard was set alight last night :/ There's some scary video footage on the BBC NI website;

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/7392085.stm

Here's hoping most of the forest will survive.. It has always been such a stunning scenery there.

So behind on posting here, as days have been beyond busy.

A couple of days ago we went to the Northern Ireland Game Fair and had a grand time indeed. Spoke with falconers and hunters alike, and it seems that setting up my taxidermy business here is a good way to go. The crowd seems to be well natured and level-headed.

During the game fair we also had some demonstrations of old guns and pistols. I thoroughly enjoyed the woman in period gowns firing the blunderbuss!

We also met up with the ferret breeder. I'm getting a bit 'ferret-sick' without Duncan by my side, but know it would be selfish to bring him over to Northern Ireland as he's just getting too old for a big move and he needs specialists attention for when he relapses.

Speaking of Duncan, he's been doing okay. He has his ups and down, but now that he's getting his weekly vitamin shots he seems to be picking up. He's still on anti-biotics, as the chemo-therapy he was meant to take didn't fare well with him. The Vet opted against stressing him to take it and decided to stick with the stuff he was getting already, the Synulox.

Having decided to let Duncan stay at home with my folks I just feel... I don't know. alone? I know I'm not, as I'm building up a nice friends circle and have my wonderful man to stick with me... but I just feel lost without a animal companion.

We talked to the ferret breeder at the game fair, and he told us pups would be ready at the end of June. We'll definitely be looking into the details, but for some reason I still feel like I'm 'betraying' Duncan by taking on another pet. I vowed to take care of Duncan for as long as it would take. Have I really done enough? Am I 'allowed' to move on and start anew?

    Ironman
Saw Ironman with Bas last night. (Ain't the new fangled online ticket ordering fandangos a wonderful invention Bas) ;) Anyway, it was surprisingly watchable, especially for a Marvel derived work. Do not expect any deep and meaningful plot, but it made up with it with special effects and explosions, which I rate highly in a movie. Robert Downey Jr I thought was very good, a little bit of sleaze, a with a blend of charm and wit. Supporting cast weren't bad. I don't know the comics so I don't know how true to them it was. I did love the robots and a computer with a sense of humour is good too.

We did stay to the end of the credits, if its worth it, probably depends on your opinion of the Marvel universe. But yes, movie is worth seeing I think.

In other news, I gave some directions to a delivery driver this morning who was smoking and now I reek of cigarette smoke.

    Travel Help Needed
Hi there, thought I'd post this here first as I know there are some of you who've been already.

Basically I'm hoping to come to EF from the UK in August and I need to see about getting my journey planned. My initial thought was to fly to Cologne (Koln) and then get the train cross-country to Suhl for the con. I don't mind hostelling it along the way either :)

Basically I was wondering if there were any fellow Brits, or indeed anyone, on here who have made the journey to EF before - and if so, how did you get to Suhl itself? Is the station relativly close to the hotel or would I need to be looking at taxi fares for the remainder of the journey?

Also, should I be looking at Frankfurt as an alternative flight destination or are there any other routes I could potentially take?

Any feedback/advice on the matter would be much appreciated :)

    Many thanks

    Pan

Well things are still going okay for me right now, so no worries there.

Next chemo will be this week on thursday again though....
Hopefully it will have a better result then last time, but now I am a bit better prepared with medication to take in right after the chemo to (hopefully) avoid sickness or at the very least throwing up (So I can stay home).

So much for my random tidbits for now..

Sunday was nice, but unfortunately a bit shorter then expected (or as I would have liked it to be).
My brother planned to do Ironclaw at first, but that idea sort off went down as he didn't seem to have prepared fully yet.
Instead Drago continued with his current campaign with some kind of vampire group, our adventurer party decided to help.

    Long weekend in Alsace (France)
The last weekend was quite nice! :)

I finished to work Wednesday evening, a bit earlier but not too much. Since Ryu worked late, I didn't see him. I had time to finish to pack my stuff (I started the day before) and eat a bit, then took the bus, then the train to Zürich, another one to Basel, and the last one to Colmar, where my uncle took me by car. We arrived at their home, that I didn't see for almost six years, at around 9:30PM. There I greeted my aunt, but also the two dogs (it's the first time I see them), named Kali (female) and Junior (male). Both are lovely but Kali was first quite afraid of me, but it's normal, since her former owner was a man who used to beat her :( Both came from the animal shelter and had a dark past, so I'm glad that they got now nice people and nice home to live. They also have a female cat called Emma, who is also very shy, she was also lurking around where my aunt works, and so she took her home. The last pet is a dwarf hamster called Jammie. It's a real zoo there, to my great satisfaction! :)
This evening I first ate and then talked much, and showed my D300 to my uncle who used to make SLR photography in the eighties and nineties, also on slides. I didn't go to late to bed because I was rather tired, and I slept in the room of my cousin who is not studying in England (in Coventry).

Next morning, I woke up at 10:30 and had a breakfast and talked to my aunt and relaxed, took some pics of the dogs etc, then we ate all together, and the afternoon I went with my aunt and the dogs to walk, and took many pictures, some in HDR. After having seen again the aunt and uncle, the house, I was happy to see the village! After almost two hours of walk, we had a tea, talked, and my aunt used the computer, then later my uncle came back from a barbecue in the heights of the village, we had a nice dinner and also a nice evening, we talked again, I copied the pictures of the day on their computer, and had a drink watching TV.

On Friday, I also woke up rather late, had a breakfast, then a walk in the village, and came back to eat. Then, after a small rest, we went by car to a village where they have reintroduction center for storks and otters, because the population of these animals were quite low, so they breed them and it's successful. BTW, the stork is the symbol of Alsace. We saw a show with storks, coypus, cormorants, penguins and a sea lion. I got a couple of great pictures. Then we walked around the park and I took more pictures, and later I try to take pictures of flying storks. My uncle and aunt went to buy stuff and I stayed in the park, and they went back just when I got out. We went back home, we ate, and had a nice evening again (I showed them the pics of the day, we talked, watched TV, I used a bit their computer, etc.)

Next day, I woke up as usual and had a breakfast. I was alone, but the dogs were there and were quite quiet. And the new camera of my uncle came, it's an Olympus E-510 (he also had an Olympus as SLR). I went to walk about one hour and made HDR pictures, then we ate, and then I went with my aunt to the dog training in the next village. I watched the lesson from the border of the pitch and also took close pictures of some cute dogs and talked to a couple of owners. When it was finished, I took more pictures of dogs and also of horses, ponies and donkeys nearby. When back we had a tea and rested, went a bit more out, then ate, and once again had a nice evening (I used a bit the computer and watched TV).

Sunday, last day, I went to walk after the breakfast and took more pictures, then we ate, and after eating took even more pictures, then we went to walk with the dogs and took pictures of them, and then it was time for me to prepare my stuff and go by car with both plus the dogs to the train station. I waited for the train, said bye and boarded, but because of whatever technical problem, it only started 35 minutes later. That means I missed the train in Basel, but all in all, I came back home 30 minutes later as expected, it was around 9PM. I relaxed a bit, then worked a bit, and went to bed not too late (but also not too early).

It was nice to go back there after so much time, to get to know their pets and also the weather was quite nice and warm, finally Spring is here. Same today and the rest of the week, and even if I have to work 4 days (well, now 3), it's nice to see the sun outside!

I guess I'm one of *thoes* people now...
Time for an update on life. Lately it has been mostly high points.

I got laid off from work. Business has been unusually slow for far too long. I and my coworker (we'll call him "B") who shares the same job title as I, have been thrown into the mix with the carpenters, doing work of that sort (what little of it there is) just to keep us busy. We both seem to like doing it every now and then for a change of pace, but it's getting very old, and to the point of "shit work." He has asked to be laid off on several occasions, citing the current duties are not what we were hired for and he'd like to do some travel blah blah blah and they keep turning him down. Friday the higher ups came to talk to me, asked how school was going, and asked if I'd like to take some time and be laid off to collect unemployment. So I am, going to get some lab time out of the way at school, and probably do a little road tripping since I now have more reliable transportation. Mwahaha "B" is gonna be pissed monday :p

Then I went and bought a car. After being given notice of the layoff, I took off early to go take care of the paperwork for a 1999 Subaru Outback Limited. A while back the thermostat in my unnamed '91 Subaru Legacy stuck closed and the car over heated. I replaced it, and a few weeks later *just* before a trip to CA the same thing happened again, so I had to cancel my trip and was quite pissed about it. I'm seeing alot of bubbles in the radiator which I'm guessing is a head gasket, and the clutch is slipping badly, so it's time to replace the car. The past few weekends Wolftales and I have spent car shopping, as both of us had been sharing the Legacy and it was time to get back to reliable independent forms of transportation. I had in my mind exactly what I wanted, and since the legacy wasn't completely dead I had time to wait for it to come along. Finally I came across an Outback, loaded, black with black leather, 5 speed, so I grabbed it. Now that I think about it I would liked to have found one with a sunroof, but I'm not going to complain. Damn I love this thing!

With time off and a new(er) car I'm feeling the urge to road trip baaad! A while back I made the resolution to do more travel. I'm setting a goal for myself to make at least a good solid weekend trip, be it by car or plane, once a month. I feel that to be realistic timewise and financially, and at the end of the year I can look back and think of things I've done, whereas when I look back on last year, all I really remember is working ALOT so I would be able to do what I'm planning to do.

In the sunlight it looks like there is a deep red metallic color to this paint,

Wonder if I could rebuild UFO/X-COM, make it exactly as it was. Then improve it. Would be one heck of a project and would need to do it in C++ of course. That means I'd have to study on game design, Game engine design, 2D graphics, pointers and object lifetime patterns, since all objects do need to be deallocated at some point. No Garbage collector to clean up the mess.

Yet. Unsure if I want to do it.
